ABOUT

BEIGE is an independent fashion, culture and lifestyle digital magazine that addresses current political and social issues through a fashion perspective. Not only does it offer inspirational editorials and articles made by young creatives, it also promotes critical reflection and a trigger to opinion of various subjects. The colour beige is often thought to be boring, but this magazine certainly isn’t.

GOAL

2020, the year that has brought us to the next step of our evolution. We have entered a new reality, full of rules and restrictions in order to fight an enemy that cannot be seen, but can be felt. Everyone has been affected by it, but imagine being a young adult during these times. Not allowed in making the most of their lives, nor doing the simplest things such as going out, seeing friends, traveling, or even finding a job. Instead, they are stuck in their homes, with plenty of time to question everything.

BEIGE IS BORING is a safe space for these young adults to learn, create and be inspired. Everything going from its design to its content is specifically chosen based on the current time and the target’s interests. It is also a platform made for young creatives to express themselves and get noticed as times are hard right now for graduates to find a job. BEIGE is more than just a simple fashion magazine. In fact, it also talks about art, photography, music, film, culture, life and politics all in complete honesty and sincerity. A magazine that is the opposite of boring and occupies your time during lockdown.

EDITOR

Hi! My name is Lucie Di Serio and I am a third year Fashion Branding with Communication student at Leeds Arts University. In September 2020, I decided to create a fashion, lifestyle and culture, digital magazine as my major final project. It’s called ‘BEIGE IS BORING’.

Because ‘Beige’ is often used to describe something or someone as mundane or uninteresting. I therefore thought that it would create the right level of satire for a platform such as ‘BEIGE IS BORING’ as an online presence representing these tedious and extremely political times that we are living in through the boredom of lockdown.

In turn, I have had plenty of time to observe my own as well as other young people’s frustrations, which influenced my inspiration and creativity behind the magazine’s concept. BEIGE is a safe space for all young adults to learn, create and explore multiple narratives. As an lgbtq+ woman, it is also important for me to support other minority communities as well as my own. BEIGE is all about empowering each other and becoming successful as a collective.
